Nixon Elementary School students were over the moon for Chef Day, a special day dedicated to exploring the art of food. An annual treat for the entire school community, Chef Day gives students a chance to experience something new and exciting in the cafeteria. This year, students had the opportunity to create their own ramen bowls, complete with a side of egg rolls. The menu was carefully curated by Chef Breandan Duff and Mrs. June Pottle, the manager of the Nixon School cafeteria.
Students moved down the serving line with excitement, selecting noodles, vegetables, proteins, and flavorful toppings to build their perfect bowl. For some students, it was their first time tasting ramen prepared this way, and many were eager to share their creations with friends at the lunch table.
I got the chance to speak with some amazing fourth graders — Stella, Kaitlin, Gianna, Rachel, Marianna, and Penelope — who shared how much they were looking forward to Chef Day. They were excited to try something new and create their own dishes. Emilia, Vera, Brenda, and Alaina shared how much they enjoyed their ramen bowls, excitedly adding that “Chef Duff is the best!” Their enthusiasm was matched by Emma, Mia, Gianna, and Caroline, who said they “can’t wait for the next Chef Day!”
It was clear that the event left a lasting impression on the students. From customizing their own meals to trying new flavors, Chef Day brought excitement and creativity to the cafeteria. The smiles, laughter, and positive feedback made it evident that the day was a huge success.
