Thursday, September 26th, 2024, the Rangers hosted the Boston Bruins at Madison Square Garden, in New York, New York. To start off the game, both teams had a great warmup, getting comfortable and ready for a long night. Some players not seen that night were Bruins’ Brad Marchand, Elias Lindholm, Alec Regula, and Max Jones, all out due to undisclosed injuries. From the Rangers, Artemi Panarin, Matthew Robertson, Ryder Korczak, and fan favorite Matthew Rempe, also missing from undisclosed injuries, status’ day-to-day for all.
Despite missing key components of their team, the Rangers started out strong, with an easy shot to the upper deck. Unfortunately for the Bruins, the start of their game consisted of 2 back-to-back penalties, immediately followed by the goal from Rangers’ Adam Fox. Although a rough start, the Bruins answered back with a pass from Morgan Geekie to Brett Harrison to tie up the game. Not wasting any time, Jacob Trouba snatched the puck away, passing to Kreider with a quick tip in to make the score 2-1. With 35 seconds to go, the Rangers refused to show mercy, left wing Brennan Othmann made it look easy and helped the Rangers to finish the 1st period with a score of 3-1.
Leading the 2nd period, a bounce off the post gave Jonny Brodzinski the all clear to bat it in, continuing the Rangers establishment of dominance on the ice. This didn’t stop the Bruins though, Mark Kastelic clapped back, tipping the puck in, an assist by Drew Bavaro.
After the end of the 2nd period, the energy in MSG was electric. The 3rd period consisted of 2 things – flying fists and finishes. Gloves dropped, Connor Mackey and Torey Krug went at it, leaving them both with major penalties. As the period progressed, it was blatantly clear the Rangers had the leg up. In a final attempt to take back the game, the Bruins pulled their goalie, which practically gave the Rangers a free point. The game ended 5-2 Rangers, and the fans went wild. What a great night it was for New York.
