Inauguration Day took place on Martin Luther King Day, Monday, January 20, 2025. Donald J. Trump was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States and James David (JD) Vance was sworn in as the 50th Vice President of the United States during the 60th Presidential Inauguration Ceremony. This inauguration was one of a kind, as it is one of three to have happened indoors and many events happened throughout the day.
Although it was not the coldest inauguration day in history, the staff made it known that they wanted to ensure the comfort of all attendees, so announced that the ceremony would happen inside the Capitol Rotunda the day after a large snowstorm with high winds and sub-freezing temperatures.
Donald Trump’s second inaugural address was notably different from his first way back in 2017. It was shorter than many anticipated and had far more ambitious and patriotic promises. Many of the statements made during the address provided insight into what President Trump will be pursuing during his second term. Some of these plans are not limited to but include: putting Americans on Mars, taking back the Panama Canal, ending the crisis on the southern border, ending inflation, reinvigorating the energy and manufacturing industries of America, renaming the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America, ending wars, renaming Denali back to Mount McKinley, and the promise of a new ‘Golden Age of America’ (The White House).
Not long after President Trump was sworn in, he made a series of different speeches and participated in numerous ceremonies; he went to the Oval Office and began signing multiple Executive Orders, emphasizing how he wanted to waste no time and get straight to work.
On the first night, Trump signed numerous Executive Orders which did the following: The U.S. leaving the World Health Organization (WHO), overturning the Biden-Harris Electric Vehicle mandate, an External Revenue Service that would take part of the role of income tax through tariffs, pardoning January 6 rioters, designating Mexican drug cartels as foreign terrorist organizations, pulling out of the Paris Climate Agreement, renaming the Gulf of Mexico and Denali to Gulf of America and Mount McKinley respectively, reducing the number of off-shore wind farms, ending birthright citizenship to children of undocumented immigrants, the potential clear-out of many federal employees who have left-wing political biases, a freeze of hiring federal employees and end to online-working for said workers, keeping the death penalty, the declaration of a national energy emergency, the federal recognition of only two genders, the declaration of a national border emergency, and a pause on the TikTok ban (The White House).
