The Curious Case Of… premiered on Max January 13th, 2025. The show, which depicted six different bizarre true stories in its first season, was an immediate hit for Max. The last episode of the first season was released on February 24th. Currently, there is no word on if the show will be getting a second season.

The first episode focused on the case of Jackass star Bam Margera who struggles with addiction. A woman named Lima Jevremovic takes over his treatment, and then an online influencer and advocate named BJ Courville sets her attacks on Jevremovic and her control over Bam, which leads to an ongoing battle about Lima’s true motives and intentions.

The second episode looks at a case in which a girl essentially “died twice.” A young girl named Mary Day, who disappeared from her home in 1981 at the age of 13, was allegedly later found by police in a 2002 traffic stop. However, the evidence did not really back up the woman claiming to be Mary Day was Mary. Although the DNA was a match, her biological sisters doubted that the woman they found at the traffic stop was their sister who had gone missing in 1981. Another interesting detail that points police in a different direction was when using cadaver dogs to search the family’s backyard area, they found a little girl’s shoe buried in the dirt but never recovered a body.

The third episode takes on one of the most interesting, confusing, and all-around crazy cases out there. The episode titled “Orphan Imposter” deep dives into Nicholas Rossi, an American political activist and a man who faked his death in 2020, sparked confusion and chaos across the world. He adopted a whirlwind of new identities to keep himself from being caught. We learn about how good he is at gaining weight, taking off weight, and wearing his hair in different ways, all to become unrecognizable as the same person. According to KTVX, he was extradited to the United States in January 2024 and is now scheduled to face trials for the Salt Lake County and Utah County rape cases this year. He is now claiming that he is “Arthur Knight,” and that he was framed and has never been to the United States.

The fourth episode took a look into the “Return To Nature” funeral home, better known as the “Funeral Home Of Horrors”. The funeral home guaranteed families eco-friendly care for their passed loved ones. However, it is revealed years later that the funeral home, run by Jon and Carie Hallford, had been leaving bodies to rot across the entirety of the funeral home and instead of putting the bodies through the cremation process, had been handing over concrete of ashes to the families who paid for their services. The police found 190 bodies in the building, some that had been decomposing for four years. In the fall of 2024, the Hallfords did plead guilty to corpse abuse charges and are both currently serving time.

The fifth episode took on a recent case. The case of Jodi Hildebrandt, a therapist who spent the majority of her time focusing on trying to “heal” people, including her strong beliefs against sexual “addictions” such as masturbation, and her teachings seem to be breaking up couples all around, giving more power to the Mormon women. Then, she meets Ruby Franke, a well-known Mormon vlogger mom, which leads to more twists and turns that ultimately end in the two being exposed for the abuse of Franke’s children.

For the season finale, the show focused on Sheryl Ruthven’s cult. Her bizarre beliefs brought together a loyal base, which believed that cats were the key to salvation. The ex-members of the cult recall their times and how they could have up to 30 cats in their house at any given time. This was a requirement in the cult. Ruthven’s tactics broke up family bonds and took advantage of her followers’ finances.
If you are looking for an interesting series full of twists and turns, this would be the one to watch. Each of these episodes will invoke questions and leave you speechless. You won’t see what’s coming next! As previously mentioned, a second season of the series has not been announced.
