As we enter the peak of winter, most people are resetting after the long holiday break or are still celebrating the holidays… unless you’re a high school senior. In this case, you are most likely eager and nervous to hear about your impending college decisions. As New Jersey residents, many Roxbury students look to attend an in-state school for their closer proximities and cheaper tuitions. However, some soon-to-be graduates are looking into out-of-state options. So, what schools are our kids applying to?
The parity of different schools that students commit to throughout the college application process is interesting. Still, you will see a lot of students choose Rutgers, Rowan, Seton Hall, TCNJ, and Montclair State, but the most interesting choices are the kids that choose something not so local. A few Roxbury High School seniors came and discussed where they will learn in the next 4-5 years. “I’ll be staying local and attending Montclair State University to pursue my business dreams of hopefully creating my corporation,” said Nick Di Andrea. Jaylen Eatman, a player on the varsity basketball team, will most likely attend the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa, which a few others are also interested in attending.
Surprisingly, this year, many students are hearing back fairly late and do not have answers yet. Even students who decided to apply to Early Action have not heard from their desired schools despite submitting their applications back in October. Furthermore, many schools have reached out to applicants to inform them a decision is looming and that they are backed up in the admissions process.
As days and weeks pass by, the understanding of where kids are going to school will rapidly be answered as most regular decision applications come in. But, in the meantime, there is still a lot of time to apply to schools if you haven’t already. The most important thing to remember during the admissions process is everything happens for a reason, so if you do not get into your dream school or the school of your desire it does not mean it is the end. Rest assured that there is always redirection.
This is an exciting time of year for all seniors and their families, and it all ends up with one question, where will you be spending your college experience?
