As winter is coming to an end, Roxbury High School’s Winter Sports teams have been showcasing their determination, skills, and teamwork. With Basketball, Wrestling, Ice Hockey, and Indoor Track, and other sports in full swing, student-athletes are giving it their all striving for success in their respective seasons.
Here’s a look at how some of the teams have been doing so far:
Basketball
Sophomore Gio Del Rosario said he has seen steady progress with the Basketball team. The team has racked up several victories with a current record of 4-7. Will Meribe is having a very impressive season, leading the team in points, rebounds, and blocks. “ We’ve had some ups and downs, but our chemistry is coming together as the season goes on,” said Del Rosario.
Wrestling
The Wrestling team has had a competitive start, with sophomore Patrick Shivas emerging as one of the team’s top performers. Shivas, who competes in the 215 and 285 weight class, has a winning record of 8-5. “Every match is a challenge, but it’s been great to see my hard work pay off,” said Shivas. He followed with, “Our team is improving every week.”
The Roxbury High School hockey team has battled through a challenging schedule with senior Goalie Michael Guadagnino leading the way behind the goal. Guadagnino has been a steady presence in the net, with an astonishing 229 saves. “We’ve faced some tough opponents, but I’m proud of how our team is staying resilient,” Guadagnino said. “ We’re working on the little things and staying focused on our goals for the season.” The Hockey team has recently had the opportunity to play in the Prudential Center against Montville High School.
Indoor Track & Field
The Indoor Track & Field team is having a strong season, showcasing depth and teamwork across all events. The athletes have been performing well at their meets, consistently improving their times and distances while competing against some of the toughest teams in the region. Sophomore Aidan Monsanto, who runs the hurdles, noted that the team’s hard work and dedication in practice are paying off. “This group is incredibly focused and supportive of one another, and we have all been steadily improving,” said Monsanto.
As the season continues, Roxbury’s winter athletes are proving their dedication and talent. With playoffs and championships on the horizon, these teams are determined to make their mark and bring pride to their school.
