The waves have gone, the sea has settled, and the cool breeze transfers into warm fall days. School is back in session and the summer is stored away until next year. Mixed emotions run through students as the new school year has arrived-first day jitters, excitement, nervousness, the list doesn’t seem to have an end. With the first days coming, seniors in high school are having their last first days, a bittersweet moment. Senior year is a year full of memories to be made and senior-specific festivities to make their last year special. Roxbury High School seniors seem to share the same viewpoint; they were able to share what they’re looking forward to in their final year of high school–providing answers that didn’t disappoint.
Senior Vanessa Burgos shared, “I’m excited for the senior trip, the senior shore, senior sunset, and especially senior skip day. The reason being it’s a once-in-a-lifetime experience and the school year’s go[ing] by pretty quick, so these are the types of moments I would like to cherish for a long time.” There are a lot of senior-based activities and it’s nice to see someone so excited to participate.
Others just seem to have very simple thoughts, like Amara Ruano for example, “I’m looking forward to things like the senior activities.” A thought with an overall positive outlook on senior year.
In contrast, senior Anthony Fitzpatrick is ready to leave the school year behind already, “I’m looking forward to getting out of school. I’m mad about the senior privilege though, 25 hours for open lunch is a lot. But, hopefully, the rest of the school year will be good.” The new addition of 25 hours for seniors to have the open lunch privilege has sparked debate. It’s interesting to see a firsthand opinion on the situation, and it seems probable that more talk regarding this will unfold throughout the school year.
In addition, Leyton Richards was interested in one activity in particular. “I’m looking forward to the Gael Cups and joining in on them, and just trying to have a good last year.” The Gael Cup has excited many of Roxbury’s students, it’s a fun time to engage with your fellow peers. Participating in different activities like tug-o-war races all goes toward helping your class win at the end of the year.
In conclusion, our seniors have a positive attitude toward their final year. Four years have flashed before their eyes and they’ve been able to see 3 other classes graduate, and soon it will be their turn. We wish them the best senior year is the goal and, hopefully, the rest of their year is filled with positive memories that’ll last long after graduation. Have fun, Class of 2025!
