This week marks week number two in the 2024 NFL season, and there is a ton to look at from last week’s matchups. Tomorrow’s TNF game is an AFC East divisional matchup featuring the Bills and Dolphins in Miami at 8:15 PM EST.
For the first time in record 45 years, the NFL saw three teams rally from at least 14-point holes leading to an opening weekend win. Josh Allen and the Buffalo Bills storm past the Arizona Cardinals, coming back from a two-touchdown deficit and flying past Arizona 34-28.
Josh Allen was otherworldly in week 1. He was rated 2nd in all 32 QBs in NFL rankings for week 1 and proved very deserving of this rank. He threw for 232 yards, ran for 39 yards, and recorded four total touchdowns. There would have been no lively force in the offense without Allen’s literal high-flying effort.
Nothing is better than a tight NFC Wild Card Round matchup between the Lions and the Rams, that led to the overtime win in Detroit’s favor. The Rams nearly became the fourth team to pull off an improbable opening-day comeback before the OT fall on Sunday Night. Both Cooper Kupp and David Montgomery of the Detroit Lions went off and came up huge on clutch yardage for Detroit. Kupp had a day of 14 catches, 110 yards, and a TD to contribute to the win. Detroit has always been a tough competition as you look across the line and see the light blue jerseys. Head Coach Dan Campbell makes them such a hard team to play, they never shy down from anything.
Now to the situation in Miami: Who thought that star WR Tyreek Hill would be spending his morning in handcuffs, then his afternoon in the endzone? That was how Hill and DT Calais Campbell spent their drive to Hard Rock Stadium on opening day. Following the Miami win, Hill later told reporters he had been stopped on his way to the game by officers for allegedly speeding but had “no idea” why he was laid on the ground and put in handcuffs. Campbell said he stopped to offer support to his teammate.
It was an awesome day to be Dak Prescott and the Dallas Cowboys as they cruised past Cleveland in a 33-17 win. Dak Prescott looked promising in a dominant game throwing 19/32, 179 yards, and 1 touchdown. Ceedee Lamb continues to shine greatness as he had 5 receptions for 61 yards. The Cowboys have continuously disappointed in the postseason, but they are no doubt a contending team. Dallas is strong in all the right areas, but who knows what will come next for them.
As for Green Bay, the situation was scary late in the 4th quarter with QB Jordan Love going down. Reporters say he suffered an MCL sprain in his left knee and is expected to miss 3-6 weeks. But as of now, he is not yet ruled out for week 2 and it looks like Matt Lafleur is leaving the door open for Love to play against the Colts on Sunday.
And finally for the New York Jets. There is a lot of talk of Aaron Rodgers return, what this means for them, and how they will continue to progress into a hopeful playoff spot. After the 32-19 loss they suffered on MNF, they are looking to come out better and stronger on Sunday in Tennessee. New York Jets fans are starting to fear the worst after that performance, but the veteran QB is trying to keep the Jets nation calm. During Aaron’s appearance on the “Pat McAfee Show”, he reminded everyone that he feels comfortable and keeps getting more comfortable each week on the field. Rodgers’ states, “I think in general, the messaging was always going to be, if we won, we’re going to the Super Bowl. If we lose, we lose. We love it, we love how passionate they are. But it’s a 17-game season for a reason. We didn’t play well Monday night. No excuses. But come along for the ride, though. If you want to jump off now, jump off, but then don’t come back. Although the Jets started the season 0-1, Aaron says he felt “extremely” comfortable back playing football; He went 13/21 throwing for 167 yards, and 1 TD. While they hope to flush this loss and not-so-promising gameplay, they are in Tennessee on Sunday in hopes of flipping the script and putting up a 1 in the win column.
