Roxbury High School features multiple programs and outlets for its students to showcase their musical talents. Programs include Choir, Theater, Marching Band, Roxbury Sound, and Concert and Symphony Bands. All programs are led by the amazing staff at Roxbury and all their student leaders!
Choir: There is the awesome Choir program led by Mrs. Sweer and Mrs. Reingold. Here at Roxbury, the Choir program spends the first half of the year gearing and preparing for their big competitions during the second half of the year. Choir is the musical ensemble of singers. They spend months perfecting their voices and performances that they will showcase in the early months of the new year!
Theater: The Theater program head is Mr. Hachey. There will be a yearly fall play to be announced soon and make sure you come out to watch all the hard work put into it!
Roxbury’s Marching Band and Roxbury Sound are led by Directors Mr. Sweer and Mr. Conrad, as well as drum majors Kate McDougal and Logan Batsch. The Marching Band is going into their 2024 season, coming off a high of winning the 2023 NJMBDA State Championship last season. This year, they will be performing their show “Rearrange.” Roxbury Sound is Roxbury’s football game music performance group. Sound consists of all Marching Band students, as well as any 8th graders wanting to participate. At every home game, Roxbury Sound sits in the stands playing their stand tunes throughout the game. Additionally, during halftime, they perform a combination of upbeat fun songs. This year, the halftime show features the songs “I Knew You Were Trouble”, “Dance the Night”, and “Sweet Caroline.” Catch the Roxbury Sound at our next home football game!
Symphony Band: The Symphony Band is directed by Mr. Bednarcik, the Symphony Band participates in multiple concerts and events throughout the year including the Metropolitan Wind Band Invitational as well as other festivals and special performances. They have proudly worked in clinics and concerts with numerous nationally renowned guest conductors and solo artists. They have performed at Carnegie Hall twice and received numerous awards of excellence.
Concert Band: The Concert Band is directed by Mr. Conrad, Ms. Bednarcik, and Mr. Sweer, this ensemble seeks to broaden performance and learning skills through the programming of exemplary literature while cultivating an interest in the band as an integral part of the Roxbury High School musical experience. The Concert Band participates in multiple concerts and events throughout the year including the Metropolitan Wind Band Invitational, as well as other festivals and special performances.
