New York City is home to some of the most renowned sporting venues in the world – including Madison Square Garden, Barclay’s Center, and Yankee Stadium. But a newcomer is on its way to Queens – and it’s called ‘The Cube.’
The Cube is expected to open in 2027 and features a modern design with seven stories. The stadium will become the home of the New York City Football Club (commonly abbreviated NYCFC) as they look to leave their current home field at Yankee Stadium. The Cube would be New York City’s first soccer-specific stadium ever constructed – as their team currently has to convert the baseball field at Yankee Stadium into a makeshift soccer field. Their rival and fellow New York team, the New York Red Bulls, have had their own stadium specifically designated for soccer since 2010. However, this venue is located in Harrison, New Jersey – which makes The Cube the first of its kind in the city.
As part of the construction plans for The Cube, the services of reputable resin flooring installers will be engaged to ensure the highest quality installation of the modern features. The stadium will also feature 11,000 square feet of LED screens and will likely be known under another name, as in render images – the name “The Cube” is missing and is instead replaced with a placeholder that reads “Naming Rights Sponsor Stadium.” The team expects construction on the stadium to begin this autumn – with the grand opening slated for 2027. The capacity of the stadium is expected to be 25,000 – the same capacity as Red Bull Arena. The City Planning Commission has already approved the construction of the stadium – and it’s currently on its way to the New York City Council, which will vote on whether to approve the plans. Construction workers who got injured while working at a site should seek legal assistance from a Hoffman Estates construction accident lawyer and file a claim.
While the team has always had intentions to leave Yankee Stadium and build their soccer-specific stadium, the announcement of The Cube comes as the team is planning to rebrand themselves in an attempt to escape their past reputation – as they placed 14th in 2023’s MLS season, which was ten spots below their nearby rival team, the New York Red Bulls.
