Many teenagers want to make money, but unfortunately, they might have other things get in the way of having the free time necessary to earn that money. School takes up a lot of time, since students spend six hours of the day, even longer if you participate in sports or after school activities. Some students just don’t have the time or energy to go from a long day at school to a long night of work. So, when and how are they going to make the money they want? There is only one time in the year when students don’t have school, and that’s the summer time.
Some teenagers are younger than others. For example, an 18 year old kid is more likely to get a job than a 14 year old. They are likely to be more mature and handle certain situations better. There are numerous fun jobs to help students make money and spend their time during the summer. Options include working in an ice cream shop with your friends, being a camp counselor, being a lifeguard, and working in a waterpark, and more.
Junior Giada Campiglia worked at Kennedy Summer Camp over the past summer. Campiglia was 16 when she started working at the camp. 16 is the youngest age an employee starts working at a playground camp, but, you could always start a year early and be a counselor in training (CIT). Personally, I have been working at a day camp over the summer the past two years but I was always too young, so I became a CIT. I didn’t get paid, but I had a lot of fun learning and being with the kids.
Similarly, Junior Eliana Okun worked at Harbor Hills Day Camp. She started at 13 years old and got paid about $900 every two weeks, including tips; which means around $300 a week plus tips. Campiglia made about $450 a week and about $1,800 a summer. As well, some people could work two jobs during the summer like Sophomore Kiara Morrissey.
Morrissey worked two jobs over the summer, one of them being Shore Hills Beach Club. Morrissey started working there when she was 15 years old. She also worked at Anthony and Sons, and got paid $15 an hour which is around $100 a week.
There are a ton of fun things to do in the summer for all ages. So, do something fun over this summer or get a job with your friends!
