As 2024 approaches, we will start to see the patterns of popular music during 2023: artists, songs, time spent listening, overall taste, etc. As we look ahead, who is the projected top artist of 2024?
According to Spotify along with the statistics taken over the past year, the top artists globally were: (1) Taylor Swift, (2) Bad Bunny, (3) The Weeknd, (4) Drake, and (5) Peso Pluma.
In addition, in 2023 the top songs were: (1) “Flowers” by Miley Cyrus, (2) “Kill Bill” by SZA, and (3) “As It Was” by Harry Styles.

Although the students at Roxbury High School may differ, we took the time to ask individuals who they believe will be their top artists of 2024.
Some individuals believe their top artist will not change. For example, Junior, Enzo Bianchi Olivera states, “Eminem, I think it will stay the same because I’ve always listened to him.”
However, many people may think their top artist will change, due to events that may have taken place, or just getting tired of listening to that music. “Drake, I don’t think it will stay the same,” Avery Shluker, a sophomore, tells us, “I listened to a lot of Drake because of the concert, so I think it will be less than it was this year.”
As 2024 comes along, we will see that artists will become more popular, and others will become less. Elizabeth Riccui thinks that Taylor Swift, the top artist globally of 2023, will stay her top artist, as she states, “She will probably be my top artist again because that’s all I listen to.”
Albums Coming Soon
One of the many ways artists stay relevant is by dropping albums. Dropping albums early into the upcoming year will likely set the artist up for success. Over the next few months, according to Billboard, the following artists are expected to drop albums:
Jan 27: J. Cole, The Fall Off
Feb 9: Kanye West x Ty Dolla $ign, Vultures
Feb 11: Usher, Coming Home
Feb 16: Jennifer Lopez, This Is Me…Now
March 1: Tyla, Self-Titled
It is unknown who will drop albums past this point because many have not committed yet. However, the 3rd most popular artist globally of 2023, The Weeknd, recently posted on Instagram their two latest albums, with a question mark on the third slide. Is this the Weeknd hinting there will be an album dropping in 2024?
