Taylor Swift Eras Tour Opening Night: An Overview of the Fashion and Music
Taylor Swift kicked off her much anticipated Eras Tour in Glendale, Arizona on March 17, 2023. The show was three hours long, and included multiple outfit changes, and over 40+ songs from all 10 of her albums. After the messy situation with Ticketmaster, the struggle to obtain tickets after the company sold more tickets than the supply amount during the presale, and the constant crashing of the website, Swift made sure fans were not disappointed by the production of the show.
Taylor opened the show with songs from her Lover album. The first song she played was “Miss
Americana & the Heartbreak Prince ”. She followed the opening song with five more songs from the album including “Cruel Summer”, “You Need to Calm Down”, “Lover” and “The Archer”. While performing these songs, Swift wore a sparkly bodysuit. To continue the trend of shimmering outfits, Swift performed another song from Lover, “The Man” in a sparkly blazer.
In the next ‘Era’ Swift performed songs from the Fearless album. The first
song she sang from this album was “Fearless” which was followed by “You Belong With Me” and “Love Story”. She sported a fringed gold dress during the album.
Taylor followed up the Fearless album with songs from Evermore— “Tis the Damn Season”, “Willow”, “Marjorie” , “Champagne Problems” and “Tolerate It” . During this performance, Swift wore a long orange dress with ruffles and gold details.
Reputation was the next album that took the stage. Songs such as “…Ready for It?”, “Delicate”,
“Don’t Blame Me”, and “Look What You Made Me Do” blared through the speakers. During this set, Swift put on another body suit. The body suit was black and asymmetrical; the detailing was red and, in Reputation fashion, took the shape of a snake.
The next album suspiciously only had one song from it played. Many speculate that Speak Now (Taylors Version) has been in the works, so many fans believe by her only
singing one song off the album, “Enchanted”, means the release date will soon be announced. While performing this song she wore a beautiful ball gown covered in gold sparkles.
“Enchanted” was followed by “22”, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together”, “I Knew You Were Trouble”, and “All Too Well (10-Minute Version)”. All songs from
Swift’s album Red. Swift gave fans a throwback when she wore her iconic black bowler hat and black shorts with a white shirt that read “a lot going on at the moment” (which was an obvious contradiction to the shirt she originally w
ore during the 2012 ‘22’ music video, which read “Not a lot going on at the moment”).
The next section of the show was dedicated to the Folklore album. “Invisible String”, “Betty”, “The Last Great American Dynasty”, “August”, “Illicit Affairs”, “My Tears Ricochet” and “Cardigan” were all songs that Swift played while wearing a very flowy, long, light purple dress.
1989 was the next performance of the night. “Style”, “Blank Space”, “Shake It Off”, “Wildest Dreams” an
d “Bad Blood” were all songs from the 1989 album that she played. Shimmering in a two-piece, pink set with tassels Swift danced across the stage.
Swift then continued the night with acoustic performances of “Mirrorball” and “Tim McGraw”. In this set, she put on a gorgeous ruffled magenta dress.
To end the night Swift played songs from her most recent album, Midnights. Swift started the performance with “Lavender Haze” wearing a knee-length sparkly purple dress along with a lavender fur coat. For the next few songs from Midnights, “Anti-Hero”, “Midnight Rain”, “Vigilante S—”,
“Bejeweled” and “Mastermind” she switched into a navy blue body suit covered in glitter fringe. To end the night Swift played the song “Karma” and added a ruffled tinsel rainbow jacket to her look.
Swift put on a fabulous performance for all the fans who attended the opening night of the tour. Not one fan would leave the stadium disappointed, a trend that will be sure to continue throughout the rest of the tour. Swift has plenty more stops on her tour list so the excitement, outfits, and music will not be going away anytime soon!
